A honeycomb was my inspiration for both the map relief and then the transformation to this image. The depth and dimension of the hexagon boxes that created the different pockets in this image give way for so much manipulation. The under the sea background enhances the feeling of being trapped. |

THIS ASSIGNMENT WAS MEANT TO PUSH YOU TO TRANSPOSE ONE 3 DIMENSIONAL OBJECT INTO A REPLICA OF ITSELF USING ONLY ONE MATERIAL. THE CHALLENGE WAS FIGURING HOW TO COMMUNICATE EVERY INCH OF SURFACE AREA, CURVE, AND CREVASSE OF THE SHOES FROM MY HANDS TO MY BRAIN AND BACK TO MY HANDS AGAIN IN ORDER TO MAKE AN IDENTICAL DUPLICATE PAIR OF VANS.

HERE I USED MASKING TAPE, WOOD GLUE, BALSA WOOD, PLASTIC WRAP, AND PUSH PINS TO MAKE A SCULPTURE THAT COMMUNICATES TEXTURE. I WAS PLEASED WITH THE WAY THIS PARTICULAR ONE TURNED OUT.

HERE I USED WOOD GLUE, BALSA WOOD, AND MASKING TAPE TO MAKE A SCULPTURE THAT REPRESENTS SPACE. I THINK I DID A GOOD ENOUGH JOB BUT COULD HAVE COMMUNICATED MY VISION BETTER.

I USED 2 BARS OF HAND SOAP TO CARVE 2 SOAP BEARS. I WAS PLEASED WITH THE PROPORTIONS OF THE FIRST BEAR BUT HAD A HARD TIME WITH FACIAL FEATURES AND ASSEMBLING THE EARS. SOME DIFFICULTIES I RAN INTO WERE MAKING EVERY PROPORTION OF EACH SECTION OF THE BODIES WORK TOGETHER AS A WHOLE AND KEEPING LIMBS IN TACT. ALL IN ALL I AM PLEASED WITH THE RESULTS.

FOR THIS PROJECT I USED FOAM BOARD, HEXAGONAL PAPER MACHE BOXES, ART GESSO, AND INK TO MAKE A MAP RELIEF SCULPTURE. THE IDEA STEMMED FROM SCALING SOMETHING LARGE INTO ITS EQUIVALENT SMALLER FORM. I CHOSE TO COMPARE THE UNITED STATES TO A BEES HONEYCOMB, AS BOTH SERVE AS HOSTS FOR TWO DIFFERENT SOCIETIES. THE BOXES AND FOAM BOARD ALLOWED 3 DIFFERENT LEVELS ADDING ELEMENT TO THE MAP.
